The Tremont TapHouse considers itself the the city’s first Gastropub. Their definition, "gastropub is derived from London and depicts a casual pub that serves an upscale cuisine complimented by the assortment of wine and beer the tavern offers." The food is made from local ingredients, complex in taste but easy to eat. They have over 100 hand crafted beers on their menu and about two dozen are on tap.
The Tremont TapHouse is in a recently renovated brick building on the corner of Scranton and Starkweather. If its a sunny day we recommend sitting on the patio. THey have nice wood table and chairs a fire pit and walk up bar. Anouther cool touch is the umbrellas don't have beer ads on them and they all match. During happy hour, all beers are $1.50 off, Which is a good deal. From 4 to 7 p.m. on weekdays. They have food specials too. Monster soft pretzels are $4. A pizza, Sweet and spicy calamar, or a Tap House burger with lettuce and tomato are only $5.

The Old Angle is a traditional Irish bar. They have the best selection of Irish Whisky I have ever seen. The owner Alex Gleson can desribe the taste ot any Irish whisky to you better the most most Sommeliers can descibe their wine lists. He knows every detail down to where the distelery gets their casks. If you have a favorite Scoth wait till you taste Midelton. |

Momocho calls itself a mod mex restaurant. For happy hour they offer 1/2 off taquitos (little tacos), Tecate, and Margaritas. For a normal bar 1/2 off is a good deal, but Momocho is reasonably priced for the quality of food to begin with. I ordered the Duck taquitos with pomegranate sauce with two Tecates and the happy hour bill was under $12. With a date I would have gladly paid full price on a Saturday night. To start with I made a taquito with just the hot green sauce, duck, onion and corn. At first taste I was very impressed with the duck and green sauce . Then I tried a taco with the pomegranate sauce, duck, onions and corn. The taste was definitely better. When I mixed all the ingredients it created a medley of flavors that exentuates the flavor of the duck. The Tecates are only $1.50 which is a great deal in and of itself. The taquitos are some of the best Mexican food I have tasted and an order is enough for dinner. Momocho has a nice patio for spring summer and fall dinning. You can reseve a table on the second floor where the chef cooks in fron of you. |

From the outside The Map Room looks like a nice neighborhood bar, which it is. But it is also much more. The first time people visit they usually notice the bi- plane. It was an award winning racing plane, which earned first place at the Reno Air show. The decorations are almost all authentic antiques such as maps, globes and old books. This is the place in Cleveland where the slightly upscale crowd goes to relax. You may see the same people at a Black Tie Affair on Friday night and then at the Map Room on Saturday for a college football game in jeans and a T-shirt. They have some of the best Pizza in Cleveland. It is a thin crust with a great sauce. Happy Hour Special $2.00 domestic drafts. $2.50 for a vodka and tonic and various other mixed drinks. 3:00-7:00 p.m. daily |
